Dragging and Dropping tips

Dragging and dropping images into ImageWell is the handiest way to get your images in.  Here are some handy tips.

    • You can drag and drop images from any program, not just the Finder, that supports drag and drop - like iPhoto.  You can also drag images right off a web page and drop it into the ImageWell window.

    • You drag and drop an image onto ImageWell icon in the dock.  If ImageWell is not running, ImageWell will be launched automatically

    • When dragging an image from one app to ImageWell, if the ImageWell app is hidden or covered up by another app - use Command (Apple key) + Tab key combo to switch to ImageWell then drop the image into ImageWell.

    • If you change your mind after you starting dragging an image, press the 'Esc' key to cancel the drag and drop operation.

Screen Grabbing Tips

    • To grab an entire window, select Grab Selection.  Tap the space bar to toggle from grab a selection to grab an entire window.  Hover the mouse over the window and then click the mouse to grab it.

    • An alternative to using the grab button or menu, is to use the Services menu.  Select ImageWell->Services->Grab from the main menu.  You can select Screen, Selection or Timed grab.  This is a handy way of doing a screen grab of ImageWell itself - because ImageWell stays on the screen using these options.

    • If you have a second monitor and want to do a screen grab of it select ImageWell->Services->Grab->Screen from the main menu.  Then click your mouse anywhere on the second monitor to grab it.

Using the Color palette

When selecting the colors for the text, background, borders there are several features that are handy.  The opacity slider will select a color that has some opacity (or transparency) to it.

Also there is a color chip storage area to store some of your favorite colors.  Drag a color for any color well in ImageWell and drop it on any of the little squares in the color chip storage area.  To select that color later, simply click on the color chip.

Using the Font palette

ImageWell uses the standard OSX font control panel to let you put special effects on text.  Select some text (when editing a Watermark or typing text in a text draw object in edit mode) and then select Font->Show Fonts... from the main menu.  The font panel will pop open.

Special effects can be applied to the text such as drop shadows, underline, strike through.  If you don't see the special effects controls at the top of the font control panel, then press the Font control menu button at the bottom and select Show Effects from the menu.

Select Manage Fonts... from the Font Control menu to open the Font Book.  The Font Book lets you manage fonts on your system, but more importantly for ImageWell - it allows you to pick your favorite fonts you want to use and access in ImageWell quickly.

Add a collection to the Font book called ImageWell and drag and drop the fonts you want to use.

Now when you are editing a draw object's text and click on the Font popup list, only the fonts in the ImageWell collection will show up.
