3 Easy Steps...

 

We'll start with the common task of resizing a photo which is done in 3 easy steps:

 

1. Drag the image you want to resize into the ImageWell. The image can come from your Finder, iPhoto, or from anywhere. In this example, we dragged an image from a Safari web page into the well.

 

2. Use the Image Resize Slider to resize the image. 

 

3. Drag the image out of the ImageWell and onto your desktop, Finder, or another application such as your email program.

Renaming and Selecting the Image Type 

 

The top of the ImageWell window contains all the tools to rename your image file and select from one of three popular image types: TIFF, JPG or PNG.  You can leave the file name as is or you can type in a new name for the image. In addition to this, the 'dice' button on the left lets you generate a random filename for the image. Generating random filenames is handy when you're uploading screenshots or something generic like that - rather than name your images screenshot1, screenshot2, etc., ImageWell will create random filenames for you.

 

Selecting the JPG Image Quality

 

The lower third of the window contains a slider bar for adjusting the quality of JPG images. JPG images can be compressed so they are smaller (in bytes) and download quicker from the Internet. The more an image is compressed however, the less overall quality the image has.  ImageWell lets you set the quality of the image and displays the size of the image, while giving you a guide of how many seconds it would take to download at dial-up speed.

 

Web Preview Your Image

 

Double-click on the image in the well to open your image in Preview mode. This allows you to web preview your image at full size (the size that will be sent or saved). Move your mouse over the top left corner of the canvas area to reveal the sizing palette. This palette reveals all the same controls for sizing and sending images that have been described above.

 

The top of the window contains the Send button, your Locations list, the Random Filename Generator, and the file type setting. The bottom of the window contains the controls for adding or editing an optional Watermark for your image. To return to the main window, simply double-click on the image again, or click the small ImageWell icon in the top left corner of the window.

 

Batch Mode - Version 3.5

 

Need to size a folder of images quickly? Version 3.5 of ImageWell offers this feature. Just drag multiple images or a folder of images into the image well and you can resize them all at once (and upload them all at once). The handy batch mode window lets you quickly scale your images all at once or apply a template to the images, and then send them off to the web or to a folder on your computer. Templates are handy for batch watermarking and adding a shape and border to your images all at once. You can also change the file type, adjust the JPG image quality, and select a sizing mode.
