Connecting to Other Web Servers

First determine from your ISP, what method(s) are available to transfer files to your web server account. Gather the relevant server information and your username and password. ImageWell supports passive FTP transfers and WebDAV (or http) transfers to remote servers.

Go to the Locations window either from ImageWell Preferences or from the Locations button in the More Drawer panel.

Connecting With FTP

1.  Click the Locations tab to reveal the Locations window.

2.  Click the "+" Add button at the bottom left of the window.  Double-click on the text field that appears in the Locations list on the left side of the window.  Name it "FTP" or any other name that you will recognize as your FTP server.

3.  From the drop down list located just below the "Location Properties" heading, select FTP.

4.  Enter the host name as directed by your ISP. Enter your username and password as well.

5.  Every ISP is different. Some ISPs will require you to preface your Directory to your files on the web server with "/htmldocs" or similar. Follow the instructions from your ISP to determine the full directory path to your folder where you want to send images.

6.  Check off the overwrite warning box to have ImageWell warn you about overwriting files on the server with the same name.

7.  "URL for viewing in browser" - Enter the URL that is required for viewing the file, if it is different from the Host Name url. If the URL used to view the web page is not different from the host name, leave this field blank.

8.  Click OK.

9.  ImageWell is now ready to send pictures to your web server.

Note: ImageWell will only do passive FTP transfer mode. ImageWell will not create directories or new folders on the remote server.  The folder must already exist on your server before you can send files to it.

Connecting with WebDAV

1.  Click the Locations tab to reveal the web server locations pane.

2.  Click the "+" Add button at the bottom left of the pane.  Double-click on the text field that appears in the Locations list on the left side of the pane.  Give the location a name.

3.  From the drop down list located just below the Location Properties heading, select WebDAV.

4.  Enter the host name of your site. ie. www.yourwebsitename.com.

5.  Enter your Username and Password.

6.  Type in the Directory where you want the images sent to. i.e. Pictures.

7.  Check off the overwrite warning box to have ImageWell warn you about overwriting files on the server with the same name.

8.  "URL for viewing in browser" -  Enter the URL that is required for viewing the file, if it is different from the Host Name url. If the URL used to view the web page is not different from the host name, leave this field blank.

9.  Click OK.

10. ImageWell is now ready to send pictures to your web server.

Note: ImageWell will not create directories or new folders on the remote server. The folder must already exist on your server before you can send files to it.
