Getting to Know ImageWell

ImageWell allows you to easily resize and edit images that you can quickly send over the

Internet to your iDisk or web server, drag and drop to another application including an email

message, copy to the clipboard, or copy the url or HTML tags of the uploaded image for easy

insertion into a discussion board post or other HTML document. Using the History list, you can

copy selected files and paste them all at the same time with one click of the mouse.

You can set up multiple server locations (and folders) making it easy to just choose one from

the location drop down list without having to change the information each time you want to send

to a new server location or a different folder.

You can add labels and watermarks, frame your image with a shape and/or drop shadow, rotate

the image, crop it, add a thought cloud or balloon, add a square, circle or arrow, and easily

adjust the size. And if you forget to rename a new image, ImageWell can warn you that an

image with the same name already exists on the server so you don't accidentally overwrite it.

If all you want to do is simply send a file to the web, choose the location from the drop down

list, and drag and drop the file over top of the Send button. You can do this with Quicktime

movies, .doc, .xls, .pdf, .gif, .png, and most other commonly used file types. If you just want to

edit an image and save it to your computer, you can do that too!

Getting Started

Launch ImageWell by double-clicking the ImageWell icon located in your dock or applications

folder. The main user interface is the image well. To import/open an image, simply drag and

drop it into the well.

Resize, edit, modify your image; make sure to give it a new name if you don't want to use the

existing name. Choose a file type (jpg, tiff, or png) from the drop down list. Go to the

Preferences pane to set up your web host location information, add multiple server locations to

the list if you wish. You can always add, delete, and edit these locations at any time.

Open the 'More' drawer to check off the URL or HTML tags you would like copied to the

clipboard. Open the Preview window to web preview the image and adjust the quality

compression and size. Close the Preview window to return to the main window.

Choose the server location from the drop down list, then hit the Send button, or Command-S, to

send the image in the well to your iDisk or other web host. To view your file on the web, open

your browser and hit Command-V to paste the URL into the address bar. Or paste the image

tags into a discussion board post or HTML email message.

To save the image to your computer, drag it out to another folder, application, or your desktop.

You can also choose 'Folder' from the location drop down menu and export the image to a

specified folder using the 'Send' button (provided you have added a folder location to your

location list in ImageWell Preferences). If all you want to do is send the image via email, just

drag it out of the well and drop it into your email message.

Once you've experimented with the basic functionality, try out some of the other tools. Go back

to the main window and have some fun messing around in the 'Shapes' pane and add some

funny annotations from the 'Edit' window. Or try out a drop shadow effect or add a watermark.
